On the Tenth Day of Christmas my True Love Gave to Me…

A Rich and Creamy Peppermint ‘Milkshake’ Packed with Protein and a Candy Cane Swirl!

    Ingredients:

    • 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese (see note below)
    • 1 scoop vanilla or plain protein powder (I use Designer Whey, which is 100 calories per scoop)
    • 1/8 tsp peppermint extract (or to taste)
    • 2-3 packets of stevia or sweetener of choice (or to taste)
    • 1 tbs sugar free instant vanilla pudding mix
    • 5-10 ice cubes (more or less depending on how thick you like it)
    • 4-6 oz water (again, alter according to desired thickness of shake)
    • Optional: a few drops of red food coloring for candy cane swirl!

(Cottage cheese is what gives shake the thick milkshake consistency! You will not taste the cottage cheese I PROMISE, but you could also use vanilla greek yogurt OR 1 additional scoop of protein powder instead!)

    Method:

    1. ONE SIMPLE STEP!  Put all the base ingredients in the blender, and blend away until desired consistency! Swirl in one drop of red food coloring just before serving, and top with whipped cream and crushed candy cane if desired!

    Enjoy!  Love Katie

I have so many wonderful memories of Easter morning growing up…But one of my favorite childhood memories is when my mom would hide easter baskets for my sisters and I , and we would run around the house trying to find them!

    12

My mom would fill our easter baskets with all kinds of fun stuff from lipgloss to arts and crafts, and a few of our favorite easter candies of course! My favorites were Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs, and Malted Milk Ball Robin Eggs!

If you like Malted Milk Ball Robin Eggs, (also known as Whoppers), then you will love this Malted Milk Chocolate Protein Shake!

    Ingredients:

    • 1 Scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder that has around 100 calories per scoop (use can also use more scoops if your making it a meal)
    • 1/2 Cup cottage cheese (or 1 cup plain yogurt). This may sound strange, but TRUST me… this is what makes the ‘MILKSHAKE’ consistency! Also, if you are sensitive to dairy, you can use tofu to get the same consistency!
    • 2-3 Tbs cocoa powder
    • 2 tbs plain or chocolate malted milk powder (this is found in the baking section of any grocery store!)
    • A few Packets of Splenda/Stevia or whatever low calorie sweetener you choose (to taste)
    • 5-10 Ice cubes (depending on how thick you like it, use less for a thinner consistency)
    • 4-6 oz Water (again alter this according to desired consistency)
    • Optional: a few malted milk balls to garnish

    Method:

    1. Measure out the first five ingredients, and place them in the blender.

    2. Measure out your ice. I use a general rule of thumb, which is using enough ice to fill the cup I will be using. (I like my shakes thick enough to eat like a milkshake, but if you wanted a thinner consistency, use about 1/2 the amount of ice!)

    ice

    3. Next, place a few of your malted milk balls in a ziplock bag, and crush them using a rolling pin, a meat pounder, or even the bottom of a glass! (This step is certainly optional~ because the malted milk balls are an optional garnish! )

    5. Add water to blender just before blending, and blend until shake has reached desired consistency. Pour into serving glass.

    6. Garnish with with light whipped cream, and a few crushed malted milk balls if desired!

If you’re anything like me, egg nog is one of my favorite holiday flavors! It may be because I had egg nog every year for Christmas Eve at our family gathering…Or maybe because it’s because it’s the perfect beverage to cozy-up with while watching Christmas movies….Either way, I love everything about it during the holiday season!

    dashingdish_edit

I created this version of my rich-creamy protein shakes (and/or milkshakes) to cure my ever burning desire for this oh-so ‘not healthy’ beverage! Not only does it cure my cravings for egg nog, but it’s got the stay-full power of protein, so it works great as a snack and/or meal replacement!

If you love egg nog, I can guarantee you will LOVE (maybe even be obsessed with) this creamy dreamy egg nog shake! :)

If you’re like me and LOVE the taste of pumpkin during the fall season…Then you will LOVE my pumpkin pie milkshake! This ‘milkshake‘ tastes exactly like pumpkin pie in the form of a thick creamy shake!

The cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and honey teddy graham’s (to resemble the ‘graham cracker’ pie crust), makes you feel like your eating an endless piece of pumpkin pie! This shake also has the added benefits of 30+ grams of protein, is high in fiber, and is low in sugar and simple carbohydrates!

    Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese (or LF greek yogurt, or you could replace the water with milk and nix the cottage cheese)
    • 1-2 scoops vanilla or plain protein powder (1-2 depending on if it’s a meal or snack)
    • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
    • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice (or 1/8 tsp of nutmeg)
    • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
    • 2 tbs splenda/stevia/sweetener of choice (more or less to achieve desired sweetness)
    • 2 tbs cool whip
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 1 full tray of ice cubes
    • optional topping: crushed honey teddy grahams

(*Optional- 1/2 tsp Xanthax gum (you can get this from meijer in the gluten free section, or whole foods, or health food stores, just a pinch of it makes your shake sooo thick and creamy!)

    Method

    1. ONE SIMPLE STEP!  Put all the base ingredients in the blender PLUS the ingredients listed under the shake of your choice, and blend away until desired consistency! Top with crushed teddy grams if desired…and enjoy!!!! :)

    Enjoy!  Love Katie

One of the greatest memories I have of going out to eat when I was a kid was going to Olga’s with my mom and two sisters.  I would always get the Three Cheese Olga with a Orange Cream Cooler on the side! I remember my mom wouldn’t always let us get the Cream Cooler, so it was a ’special’ treat when we did!

It has been a goal of mine to re-create this thick and creamy~dreamy drink for years now! I literally have tried EVERY combination of orange flavors, and it always came out ‘close’ to the real thing, but I was never felt like it was re-living my childhood ~ to say the least! :)
That is until…..I discovered True Orange packets!!! True Orange packets are 100% all-natural orange flavored crystals, and they are awesome! They are calorie free and sugar free and can be used anywhere fresh oranges are used, (they also have lemon and lime flavors.) I knew when I found this product that THIS could be what I was searching for all this time to re-create the Orange Cream Cooler
I made a shake with this awesome new product the minute I got home, and I was ’sold’!!! It tasted EXACTLY like Olga’s amazing drink, only my version is high in protein, low in sugar, and only has about 200 calories! Beat that Olga’s!!! ;)
    Ingredients:
1 scoop vanilla protein powder ( 100 calories per scoop~or more depending on your calorie and protein needs)
1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese (or vanilla yogurt…but c. cheese is better, and I promise you won’t taste it, but it really helps the texture!)
5 packets True Orange Packets (***see note below if you can’t find these!***)
3-5 packets of NuStevia (or splenda/sweetener of choice)
A few drops of red & orange food coloring to give it the authentic orange color, (or you could use orange food coloring if you have it!)
8-16 ice cubes (I use the whole tray, which is 16 ice cubes, which makes a very thick shake!)
1/2 cup light skim milk OR light almond/light soy milk
*Optional~ Reddi Whip to garnish, xanthan gum to thicken
***I found my True Orange Packets at Hiller’s Market, but I am sure you could find them at most grocery stores! If you can’t find them, you could also use Orange Crystal Light, or Orange Sugar Free Jello Mix, which is obviously not preferable, because of the artificial sweeteners, but it will work in place of True Orange Packets!***
    Method:
Add all of the ingredients to a blender, adding the milk last, and using more milk if needed to get things moving! (Add additional liquid slowly…and only if needed!)
Press ‘pulse’ to crush the ice, then continue to mix until just smooth. (When shake is thick and creamy it’s ready!) Pour into a large mug or cup!
Squirt some whip cream on top (if desired) and enjoy with a straw or spoon!
    Enjoy!  Love Katie

Every year around this time, (when it starts to get warm outside) it hits me that I can’t drink my usual ‘hot’ drinks anymore, (unless I want to sweat). :) For example, today I was craving hot chocolate, but considering that it was 85 degrees out, I knew it was way to hot to drink something warm.  So of course I began thinking about how I could get my chocolate ‘fix’ and thought, why not make my hot chocolate FROZEN!?! I had just got done with a really ’sweaty’ workout, so I made this frozen hot chocolate with a side of zucchini chips for the perfect post-workout dinner!

I love smoothies, and I’m always trying to come up with different combination’s! One day I was craving something refreshing for a snack, and had a lime flavored sparkling water in my fridge.  I thought, why not take my ‘traditional’ strawberry smoothie and make it ‘sparkling‘!?! The sparkling water had a ‘tart’ lime taste, and I realized how perfectly it paired with the sweetness of the strawberries! I wanted to take it up a notch, so I added a splash of lime juice, and presto~ the Sparkling Strawberry Lime Smoothie was born!

    shake

This smoothie is creamy, thick, and delicious and is the perfect balance of tart and sweet! It makes a great snack, but it could easily be turned into a meal by adding some vanilla protein powder. Take your smoothie to a whole new level…Make it ’sparkling’ today! :)

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup of frozen strawberries (unsweetened)
    • Splash of lime juice
    • 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese (or vanilla yogurt~however, I encourage you to try cottage cheese- it balances the sweet/salty flavors and it tastes great, not to mention, it’s high in protein!)
    • 1 tbs of sweetener of choice (OR to taste~use less if using diet soda that is already sweetened)
    • 8-10 ice cubes (may use less/more depending on desired consistency)
    • 1/2-3/4 cup lime flavored sparkling water (or diet 7 up) (more or less depending on desired consistency)
    • *Optional: 2 tbs Cool Whip to make creamier, Lime or strawberry to garnish, Pinch of guar or xanthan gum to thicken, 1-2 Scoops vanilla or plain protein powder

    Method:

    1. Place the strawberries, lime juice, cottage cheese (or yogurt), and sweetener in blender. Note: If using Cool Whip add it to the blender during this step!
    2. Add the ice, followed by the sparkling water (or diet soda). Blend until smooth.
    3. Pour into a large glass, garnish with whip cream or a wedge of lime.

    Enjoy!  Love Katie

I love protein shakes because I feel like I’m having a milkshake!  I like my shakes so thick that I have to eat them with a spoon.  I even put toppings on it (of course this adds calories).  For toppings, I like to use half of a 100 calorie granola bar crumbled, a few 100 calorie cookies crumbled, or even 1/4 cup cereal, like Reese’s peanut butter cereal!
