Psalm 5:3 “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”
Our family has been experiencing the winds of change. Let me assure you that much of it has felt like wind of hurricane force. I’m not great at change. I’m even less graceful as I wait for clarity amid change. In the “waiting room” of my prayers, my thoughts tend to look more like a whirling dervish than anchored stillness. One morning last week though the Lord used Psalm 5:3 to deeply touch my anxious heart. As I read the verse it moved me to tears as I realized how different it is to bring our requests to the Lord and then wait expectantly, than it is to lay our needs at the foot of the cross waiting anxiously. Expectancy brings with it a sense of hope, peace, anticipation, and assurance. It’s the cashing in on God’s promises before the answers come. There’s a deep faith and trust that accompanies this kind of waiting that pleases the Lord and yields peace. The kind of peace we can’t understand. The kind of peace we only enjoy when we lean fully on God’s goodness. If you’re in a season of change as well, you may be tempted to bring your needs, prayers, requests, worries, and cries for help to the Lord, then do the dance of waiting anxiously. Can I just encourage you today that expectancy is the gift of peace He gives us in the waiting? He is your best-case scenario. He a safe place to rest your weary soul. He is with you. He is for you. And, He is working on your behalf for good in ways you can’t even imagine. Today, if the winds of change feel more like a blast than a breeze, take a deep breath and choose hopeful expectancy. It will secure your soul and bring joy to your journey. Peace to you today.
