“Kind words are like honey—enjoyable and healthful.” Proverbs 16:24
“Let the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing in Your eyes, O Lord, my Rock and the One Who saves me.” Psalm 19:14
We must be so careful to guard the thoughts and words we use toward ourselves. It’s incredibly easy for thoughts to repeatedly, habitually, relentlessly run through our minds that curse us. Our minds can be the private space to indulge darkness can’t they? We can, seemingly without repercussion indulge in thoughts like:
The problem though, is that these thoughts DO have repercussions. The self-deprecating jokes we make with girlfriends, on Facebook, or with family DO have consequences. Our thoughts and words appropriate our reality. We live out what we think and speak. And, it’s simply not ok with God. Our mind feels like a private gathering place for disgust, degradation, and disgrace, but it’s not. The Lord is present at that little soirée and it’s grieves His heart. We have an obligation. We are not obligated to sin. We are not obligated to be hostess to lies that condemn us. We are not obligated to oblige every desire of our flesh. Today, and every day, we ARE however, obligated to obedience and honor to our God. Today, will you pray Psalm 19:14 as an offering? Though they harm us, sometimes our hurtful thoughts and words actually feel like a misguided “treat,” a release, even a confirmation. As with all fasting, we refrain from something as a sacrifice and offering of blessing to our Lord for His goodness. Today, resign in your heart to fast from self-harming thoughts and words. Ask the Lord to bless your offering with a new revelation of love, kindness, gratitude, and holy vision of yourself. I’ll be right there at the alter with you! This is for all of us my sisters! Bless you today.
